The Sacramento Abandoned Vehicle Service Authority (SAVSA) was createdIn 1991 to combat the growing problem of abandoned vehicles on both private and public property. The Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA) Governing Board also serves as the SAVSA Governing Board.
SAVSA is funded by a one dollar surcharge collected by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) when you register your car. These revenues are transmitted to the city and county zoning enforcement units which remove abandoned vehicles from streets, parking lots, fields, and private parcels. Each year, SAVSA helps to fund the removal of over 20,000 abandoned vehicles in Sacramento County and within the Cities of Sacramento, Isleton, Galt, F olsom, Citrus Heights, and Elk Grove .
